Restorative Yoga

Do you have Stress? Do you ever completely, totally, relax? Allowing your bones to drop deeply towards the earth, inviting gravity to support and enhance your connection to the earth, to yourself, to others? Imagine lying on a cloud, completely supported, every muscle, bone, and organ suspended, weightless, and calm.

In my Retreats and Yoga classes, I create an environment which elicits the senses towards a meditative experience, relaxing, restoring, and most importantly, creating safety where mindfulness occurs naturally and often quite easily.

This type of Yoga is unique in that less is more. Less effort, less thought, less doing. Our bodies need time to settle down from our busy schedules, all the expectations, and the never ending tasks.

Enjoy warming up with gentle yoga, stretching out tight muscles, opening tight hips, releasing fascia, then.... drop into a dreamlike state, with rhythmic breathing, while muscles release tension, layer by layer.

We use lots of props - pillows, blankets, blocks, etc., to allow your body to be as comfortable as possible, and then... you rest, enjoy your experience while your tension unwinds, letting everything go except the experience of support, calm, and safety. The nervous system calms down, the blood pressure drops, breath deepens, and without effort, muscles release and elongate with the spine.

Another unique aspect of this type of Yoga is that you will remain in one pose for a period of time, but only as long as it feels completely nourishing. Restorative poses, depending on the pose, can be quite enjoyable for 15-45 min. The reason for extending the time, is that it takes our bodies 15-25 min. to relax, when we first begin to practice. Once the body learns to relax on cue, then you will relax more quickly, and will enjoy a more meditative experience where the construct of time is suspended, and you become fully embodied and present.

If you desire meditation, but find it difficult to do,

this will teach your body how to settle down. This is

not exactly a meditation class, but the definition of

meditation is a single focus in order to become present

and mindful. We defintely receive those elements in

this type of Yoga practice. No experience is necessary.

The only criteria is that you have a desire to release

stress.
